Start making a list of what you'd like on your website. What text do you want on the main page? Do you already have a logo that you'd like added to your website? What picture or graphic do you want on your Contact page? What kind of script would you like? What color would you like your pages to be? What color and shape would you like your internal link buttons to be?

Graphics included in a website should serve a purpose, either to convey information or to make a page more legible. Unnecessary graphics should be avoided, so that download times are minimized. Each page should be usable even if a user has images turned off in his or her browser.

The site should contain the information that the user is likely to be looking for and extraneous information should be minimized or eliminated. Text should be easy to read, with no typographical, spelling, or grammatical errors. Complete contact information (mailing address, telephone numbers, etc.) for the client should be available in a prominent location on the site.

The content of the site should be organized in a logical manner, so that a user can quickly and easily find the information that he or she is looking for. Navigation tools, such as buttons, should be consistent from page to page within the site.

The site should look good and work well with recent versions of major browsers. When appropriate, alternative pages should be made available for users whose browsers do not support the newer features.
